It almost over

Okay so I am really excited for this semester to be over. Finals are kicking my butt right now and I have to register for classes and do everything else. My essay however is still coming along well, I plan on rewatching Land of the Dead and Shaun of the Dead before I finish my essay. Hopefully everything goes smoothly because right now there isnt much time for errors. I expect to describe each movie in detail and make my essay the appropriate lenght, because I need an A on this final to reach my goal grade. So far everything is going as planned I recieved full credit for my proposal and bibliography and now need to focus all my attention on my essay. The paper proposal and bibliography was an awesome idea, it helped save time and worry! Also it made me stop procrstinating about writing my paper and gave me a clear idea of what I needed to do for my essay. In the future Ellen should make the paper proposals and bibliographys for all the essays she assigns. It is a good way for students to prepare for their papers. Although we did the paper proposals and bibliography early enough to write a great paper, I believe that some students wont utilize their time wisely and will slack off while finishing their papers. I hope noone does this but from the way people have been responding in class a few of them seem less then prepared. Good thing I got my head on straight for this paper, because I would of been one of those people. I have a problem with waiting to the last minute to do everything, the only thing that saved me is doing the proposal and bibliography. It is all almost over, thank God. This semester has been hellish for me.

Final Essay

Okay so my final essay as of right now is going very well. I have finished my paper proposal and bibliography early and have began to write out an outline for my final essay. Although I feel confident in my writing I am still feeling a little pressure and anxiety about the length. I have a lot to talk about and a lot of great sources but I havent written a paper this long since my senior year in high school. Even bak then if I cried to my teacher he hand fed me my essay so its frustrating to have to do all the work on my own. I think that I am going to describe the movie in great detail to start out my essay, that way someone who hasnt seen the movie will still be able to understand what I am talking about. Then I would like to talk about race, and roles that minorities play in the film. After all that I will go into detail about gender roles in the film and how women are always the weak followers and never the strong leaders. To end my essay I am going to discuss romance in the film. I will be comparing it to Saun of the Dead. Which actually has "A romantic comedy, with zombies" under the title of the movie on the cover of the DVD. It is kind of ironic since this is a big thing missing in Romero's film. Hopefully after using all 5 sources and comparing and contrasting Saun of the Dead to Romero's film I will be able to complete 8 pages of text. If not I will be visiting Ellen for her help. I still have a lot to do but i am prepared for it. my goal is an A but i dont want to jinx myself, I am shooting for the highest grade possible but expecting the worst, you need to prepare for all possible outcomes. hopefully if all goes as planned i will be done with my rough draft in the next week and will finish my final draft before the due date, maybe even before the 20th so I can talk to Ellen for some feedback.

Hillary Duff's New Show

Ok since The Hills is over I was watching MTV last night and Hillary Duff has a new show out about her life. It is pretty good seeing as how its like a documentary of her tour and new album. I dont personally like her but her music is good so it is interesting to see how much work artist actually have to do. I thought that all they did was sing and record and fly all over but in Hillary Duffs case she really puts her all into her songs. She wrote every one of her albums new songs and she is in control of every aspect of her tour. On the episode I watched her dancers were not prepared for the show that was the next night anf Hillary brang them outfits to wear and they had a practice that night so she knew they were ready. It is kind of funny to see her now as a singer and remember her as Lizzie McGuire. She has grown up so fast it seems, she is a beautiful girl. It was kind of sad though watching the show, she had noone with her. None of her family or anyone and the only way she could keep in touch is with her cell phone. I would go nuts if I was across the world and my mom or my boy friend didnt go with me. Her cell phone by the way was gold, real gold. I guess all that hard work and late nights really pays well. Good for her though, she deserves it cuz she actually works for it.

Reading

When I was reading this weeks packet I was surprised to see how people would compare Aristotle and Goerge Romero. I wasn't exactly sure how the two of them were on the same level but Mathew Walker did make really good points to compare the theories of Aristotle and the storyline of Romero's films. walker used a great sentence to describ Romero's films, "The flesh eatin zombies of George A. Romero's Dead films turns stomachs- sometimes by twisting them right out of mangled bodies". Since my paper will mainly be focusing in on gender, race, and lack of romance in Romero's films, that sentence is still a great way to describe the goar of Romero's films. I plan on describing both Shawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead in great detail before I start my essay so that the reader can understand what I am talking about. I would like to use this quote in my description of the film. Also, walker states, "they are mindless Undead, living corpses who'll surround you en masse in search of a warm meal", this relating again to the zombies. This sentences made it apparent how scarry the zombies were made to be. Also Romero's film was compared to Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, Book V, Chapter 1, to describe the zombies motivation to eat as being pleonexia. Pleonexia is describ as being the ovverreaching desire for the goods of fortune. It is ironic that a zombie movie woulod ever be compared to a person as influencial as Aristotle.

The Hills

Okay so it's sad to say but I am sooo glad that this season of the Hills is over. The final episode was awful, of course it was all about Heidi and Spencer and how freakin stupid Hiedi is. The whole season was filled with the drama of Lauren's life and how her friends betray her and they end the season with Hiedi leaving Lauren once again for Spencer. I think it was ironic that after all Heidi did to Lauren with the whole Brody incedent, that Heidi would betray her friendship again and move out. Not only did she move out but she told Lauren that she would give her some time to find a new roommate and when Lauren got home from work or school that day Heidi had all of her stuff moved out. That was shallow, Heidi obviously wasn't thinking about Lauren's feelings at all. It just goes to show Lauren what kind of friend she really was. On the afterparty thing they showed follwing the show, not once did they talk about Heidi and Spencer, they did however talk about Lauren and Heidi and what Lauren learned from the experience. It is just sad to see a friendship ruined by a guy. Audrina ended up moving in with Lauren and it seems to be going pretty well from the way they were acting on the after show but things won't be the same without Lauren's best friends... from the first season. Im glad that she did learn her leason and gave up on the people that betrayed her and that her new roomate seems to respect her a lot more than Heidi ever did. Thank GOD it's over I dont think I could take another episode of Heidi and her "friendship" with Lauren.

The hills

Just a little overview of what happened on this weeks episode. Whitney is a 5 year intern who is about to graduate, and would like more responsiblity and a real job. So she and Lauren are sent on a show and Whitney is spotted for modeling. While she was modeling a dress on live TV she falls and is morbidly embarrassed. After the drama everyone is trying to console her and she seems to be upset. The next day at work she is given a little pep talk by the bss lady and she was given a note from the big lady at Teen vogue. This episode was one of the best, in my opinion. Mainly due to the fact that it had nothing to do with Heidi or Spencer. This pisode showed a girl trying to move up and the struggle of doing so. I liked this episode so much because it wasn't filled with all the normal drama of The Hills, it was what the show was supposed to be about, Lauren and her life now after high school, it finally showed a true day of work and someone trying to go somewhere. It wasnt all about people cheting or drinking and it was still a good show. The more I watch the more I want to change the channel just because it has gotten so "reality TVish" with the drama and acting and what seems to be typecasting. The show seemed to only play the god footage and not the actual footage of Lauren and her new life on her own. This episode was more realitic than "Reality TV". The season is almost over I hopw it ends as well as it started and has little to nothing to do with Spencer, he ruins the freakin show.

land of the dead

In the movie we watched this week I was a little dissappointed. I thought that it was going to be more realistic i guess. It seemed to put on. For a zombie movie however it was one of the btter ones that I have seen. I still think that it is going to be really hard to write about this movie in my paprer. Im not too sure how I want to write it or what exactly I want to write about. There isnt a big interest in zombie movies, in my life so writing baout it is deffinatly a challenge. I would much rather write about romance movies rather than a zombie film but I guess I have to deal. Im just nervous about the lenght and what topics to write about. I think I may write about the spoof movie Shawn of the Dead and compare and contrast the two films but who knows right now. I thought that the ending of the movie was pretty shabby. I was anticipating a better ending but its okay. It is ironic how the people who were money huingry and in control both lost their lives in the end. It goes to show a moral point kind of, like what the main character said "money burns". The characters more interested in living made it and the money hungry ones both died a horrible death, ironic. All in all it wasnt too bad, but I wouldn't choose to watch this movie in my free time. I dont think that after I write my paper I will ever watch another zombie movie again but its good to experience different forms of writing.

The Hills

On this weeks episode of The Hills someone is feeling a little guilty for thier actions. Hiedi decides that she is going to through Lauren a surprise 21 birthday party. Before that she lied to Lauren again about hangin out ad left her alone on her birthday which was part of the surprise. I think that although it was a nice gesture, the only reason she through her the party was for one to drink herself and for two to get back on good terms with her. I think that Heide was jealous of how close Audrina and Lauren were getting and so she through her a party to make up to her. I also think that Lauren is growing smarter and wiser about her friends, hopefully this time she wont get hurt. I though it was really shady of Brody to ask Spencer to make a toast to Lauren on her Birthday, thye dont like each other so why would he want him of all people to make a toast. Spencer is so fake it makes me sick, he talks so much trash about Lauren behind her back and yet has the nerve to make a toast to her? HE makes me so angry I could punch myself! I dont see how any girl would take all of his shit and still want to be with him. Heidi is either Blind or stupid and I'm thinking stupid. The show seems to be getting better but I cant wait to see how it finally ends. Who will be friends and who will still be together and all... I hope Lauren end up with more friends like Audrina and herself.

St. Patrick's Day

Okay so I totally dont understand why everyone is going crazy about St. Patrick's Day. Not everyone in Downriver is Irish so why are they acting like it. Even if they are Irish why do they want to run around looking like idiots because they drank waaay too much? I dont understand our society at all. The bar down the street from my house opened up at 6 this morning and people are already drinking. That can't be too safe. I wonder what our government is thinking allowing these places to open so damn early. Drunk driving is already a problem in todays world so why give an alcoholic more time to get drunk and behind the wheel of a car? I'm Irish and I don't even think that this is a necessary holiday to be celebrating. yeah I am proud of who I am but I'm not willing to get drunk and act like a bafoon in front of everyone, while wearing a shirt that says I'm Irish. Who really cares anyway? I'm so frustrated with the way people are. I wonder if they have anything better to do then to make stupid mistakes and kill someone else because they just had to start drinking at 6 in the morning. People need to stop being idiots and look around, find something better to do with their time. It is ridiculuos that this world does stupid crap like this. If you're not Irish don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day and if you aren't responsible enough to get a DD than don't drink!! Walk you're lazy butt to the bar and walk home if you dont like it tough, dont drink!!

Spring Break

Although I know that Sring break is supposed to be a huge party down in Mexico or Miami, I am stuck here in horrible Michigan. One reason for this is due to lack of money, although I work 2 jobs and have no life. I ruined myself with credit cards and someone has to help my mom out. The other reason is because I think that there are more important things in this world than getting tanked and sleeping with the first person you see. My brother has been in the hospital for what seems like forever and Iw ould much rather spend time by his side then hundreds of miles away with a pina colada in my hand. I dont understand why soo many college students that are supposed to be saving their money for school go off and blow thousands of dollars for a party. I think that if they would spend maybe 100 dollars they could have a good time here too. I dont get people these days, it doesn't seem like they are thinking too much about the future. I wish I had mommy and daddy paying for eveything but I'm not that lucky. Okay now that I have vented, my spring break has been pretty darn good. My brother is getting better and my family is more relaxed. Plus I get more than 3 hours of sleep a night!!! I wish I had the money to go out to Miami for the hell of it but I can't and I am just as happy here with my family. I hope more people think about things like that, family should come before anything. No matter how hard life gets.

The Hills

Okay so I can completely understand how Lauren is feeling right about now. Although her friends are screwing her over and leaving her out she is still working and keeping up with her school work. She is an amazingly strong person. Heidi of course broke another promise to Lauren when she said she would be home from her little vacation with Spencer and Lauren got ditched again. She is the type of person who deserves to be treated the way she treats everyone else. She also went out on a blind date with Audrina and her boyfriend, it seems like to matter how hard her life gets or how much drama there is she still keeps her head on straight. The new guy seems a lot better than her usual boyfriends, maybe this one will treat her right. I think that Lauren needs to find new friends and get rid of the negative, self absorbed ones she has now. In my last essy I made a mistake with the names, Jen was the one that screwed Lauren over not Audrina. Audrina is the perfect friend for Lauren because they are both so nice and caring. If I were in Lauren's position right now I would probably have a nervous breakdown. She has been betrayed by her best friends, and people she has grown up with. That type of betrayal leaves permanat scars. I have said this before but Lauren is the best role model on TV right now. Her responsible independent attitude should be the prime example that all girls should see. Often girls on TV are running around looking like sluts, and Lauren is in control of nearly every aspect of her life. If all girls were like her there wouldn't be a need for men. Thats probably a good idea!! Boys are seemingly nothing but trouble, thank god there are soo many out there, because there is bound to be one good one out there. Hopefully someday soon TV wont be so infatuated with sex and money and more people can be real, and be the right kind of role model. Lauren has her priorities straight and thats what young girls need to see, they need to know it's okay to be smart and independent.

Essay 2

This essay has been a lot easier for me to write. I think it has a lot to do with absences, I wasn't gone nearly as much with this essay. I didnt miss an important class and I knew exactly what I needed to do. I watch a lot of reality t.v and so writing about it was simple. I dont really pay attention enough to ads making that essay a lot harder to write. Back to this essay though, I wrote about my favorite shows The Hills and Real World. I never noticed how fake these shows were until we started studying them. I never even knew there was a thing called typecasting until recently. Also having more experience writing in a college setting has helped me. I didnt have the experience and knowledge I needed to write the first essay correctly and now that I know everything I learned in high school is wrong it makes it easier for me to do things right, according to college standards. I also never realized how much alcohol was used to make people's lives more interesting. If it weren't for alcohol and the way people act when they're drunk the shows would be boring and I probably wouldn't watch them nearly as much. My life isn't too interesting so watching someone get screwed over and all the drama that goes along with that makes me want to watch the show. This essay showed me how producers use people to make money, and how they alter shows to raise ratings. This essay is a lot more in depth than the first and it is more of an opinion essay. I love to be outspoken and tell people my opinions whether or not they want to hear them so writing an essay that is mainly all about my opinion was easy. I still have to work on a few things and fix a little bit of my essay but overall it is going well. In the end I think that I will be back on track with my grades and essays after this week, HOPEFULLY!

The Hills

You know its one thing for Hiedi to hurt herself and to go out of her way to do so but it is a completely different thing for her to hurt her best friend. Through out both seasons Lauren has been there for Heidi she was the one to pick her up off the ground and dust her off when Spencer broke her heart. Audrina is unspeakably rude, she grew up with Lauren and they have been friends fo ryears and to betray her like that is unthinkable. What are these girls thinking dont they have respect for one another. It is an unwritten rule that all girls know not to touch another girls boy-toy. I can't imagine how it would feel to be Lauren right now. She has so much on her plate with school and work and the drama with her friends is kind of the cherry on top. If I were betrayed like that by anyone I knew I would not be as understanding as Lauren has been. I think she really needs to reconsider her friendships with both girls. They obviously dont care about her or how she feels. Friends are supposed to be there for you not go behind your back and stab you. Hiedi should have opened her mouth and said no to Audrina just like Laruen opens her mouth everytime she sees Spencer being an asshole. Those 2 girls need a reality check, they need to be shown that the world does not revolve around them and that boys are not going to be there for them like their best friends will. I think that they have a big surprise coming, soon. Lauren will learn her lesson and grow up leaving the 2 of them to fend for their selves.

Wed. Reading

As I read through the reading for Wed. about Will and Grace I was surprised to see how much I miss when I watch the show. I never notice the differences in the way the characters act on the show. I believe that it is true though about how Will is more "closet". He is a lawyer and a highclass, high paid man, and for him to show he is gay could cost him his job or clients. This is a true aspect of all gay americans lives. Most people who are gay in todays society aren't comfortable coming out and announcing their sexual preferences. I think that our society makes people this way. We discriminate against anyone who is different than ourselves and we make it impossible to feel comfortable if you are not a clone of mass media. This students essay show me how many gay people feel. They feel like they need to hide who they really are and thats embarrasing to admit, our country is cruel. However I dont believe that all gay people fit into 2 categories as the student said. I believe that there are many more categories that all people fall into. Whether they are gay or not has nothing to do with it. Some people are just flamboyant and outgoing and some are laidback blend-in kind of people. It doesnt change their sexual preference at all. It is just who they are.

The Hills 4

This weeks episode was slightly dissappointing. I really thought that Heidi would have learned her lesson. If I were Lauren I would be really upset with her for going back to Spencer, because she was the one that had to pick her up when she was down and comfort her. I think that its sad to see someone get hurt like that and have her not learn anything from it. She used to be really independent last season and she controlled her relationships and now she is being controlled by them. Whenever someone is jealous or worried about her boyfriend cheating it is a sign that nothing good can happen from that relationship. They are too young to be worried about things like that. Her and Lauren both have good jobs and should concentrate more on school and work than boys. She would be better off leaving Spencer alone until she knows shes ready to be hurt again, which should be never!! I have been with my boyfriend for almost 4 years now and if it had come down to trusting him and being jealous of him and the things he does, then I would know that it wasn't meant to be. You cant possibly love someone that you can't fully trust.

Wed. Reading

Alhtough I believe most of what the author was saying I do bbelieve that some things were blown out of proportion. Yes, I believe that reality T.V is made up and that people are chosen not solely on their personalities but on their looks as well. I believe that the only reason reality T.V is so huge in today's society is because people like to watch something on T.v that they can relate to. I also believe that the author exageratted some of his statements. For example, he compared the voting system of Survivor to the democratic voting system of America. It does have a few similarities but is a whole different kind of vote. The winner of survivor will not run our country, nor does he have any say in anything about our country. It is ridiuclous to compare the two because they are on totally different levels. Also reading the student essay I agreed with most things but what I didnt agree with is her opinion about Rosie's "catholic" values. I am cahtolic and as far as I am concerned it doesn't matter how giving you are it is still against the Catholic religion to date the same sex.

The Hills 4

On this weeks show, Heidi found out how Spencer really was when she wasn't around. She met up with Audrina for dinner and talked things out and realized that friends were more important than boys. I think that when girls are jealous of each other they tend to find faults in them such as their credibility, in order to make themselves feel better. After being betrayed by Spencer Heidi only had her friends to pick her back up and help her to her feet. This just goes to show the rest of the world or atleast people who watch the show how some guys really are. Spencer is ugly anyways the only time her gets girls is in the club when the alcohol is flowing and girls have beeer goggles on. This episode taught the female viewers that they should be more independent and to not lean on a guy. Even though Heidi felt betrayed by Audrina, she gave her a chance to tell her story and in return learned the truth about Spencer. Girls should stick together when it comes to those types of situations. Its better to learn from your mistakes than to keep making the same mistakes int he future. I just hope that heidi doesn't end up going back to Spencer and starting all the drama again.

Essay 1

Writing essay 1 was unusually hard for me. I had to miss a lot of school and a very important lecture thanks to food poisoning from Taco Bell. After throwing up for hours I ended up not writing my essay in the correct way. I ended up starting pretty much from scratch and now have to finish up a few things and fix a few things before Friday. In high school I was the best writer in my English class and now I cant even write a simple essay about advertisement. Maybe I should try to be to more lectures, especially the important ones. O well I guess the next one will go a little bit smoother. The only thing I had trouble with was describing the ads in detail, I kept comparing them to commercials and ended up having to redo that part of my essay as well. All in all it was a pretty reasonable assignment, I made it harder on myself by missing class.

The Hills 3

On this weeks show, it was the same old drama. Hiedi of course was the main source of this drama. It was her brithday and so she thought it was okay to be a total bitch to Audrina. Spencer which is a player wanna be is the reason for her being so mean. Hiedi is a jealous insecure girl who doesn't have the self confidence to talk things over with Aundrina. She uses her inability to communicate with people to make what she does right. I think that she needs to focus more on herself rather than her boyfriend and his infedelity. Lauren of course is stuck in the middle because she is friends with both Hiedi and Audrina, and Hiedi doesn't like that too much. I think that since the girls are in the real world they need to be a little more mature and leave the high school drama, in high school, and grow up a bit.

Wed. Reading

As I read through the essay on stereotypes and advertisement, I was surprised to see how insecure white americans are. We love to hurt people and make them feel inferior to us. We use the stereotypes of Asain americans, african americans, and hispanic americans, to sell products. It pathetic that even after the Civil Rights Movement we are still having to deal with stereotypes, and racial slurs. Although it was stated that laws have been helping the minorities and that stereotyping in advertisement is nearly gone, it is still there in some form or another. White americans are too insecure to sell the real product that rely on the racist and insecure people to buy a product only because it has a racial slur or a durogatory saying in the catch phrase. It was also interesting to see which company used this for their benefit. Cream of Wheat and Aunt Jemima were the 2 most shocking, to me. I love aunt Jemima and her pancakes, not because she is african american but because her darn pancakes are good. Cream of Wheat, although I think it is nasty, it has been around for like ever, and to see that they haven't learned anything over the years is ridiculuos.

The Hills 2

Last night on The Hills, I learned that even rich people have problems. On the show Lauren's best friend Heidi is like her evil twin. She isn't really evil just a really bad role model for girls in the real world to follow. On the show she decided to trick her ex boyfriend who by the way is a cheater into thinking she was pregnant, just to see what he would do. First of all lets not get knocked up, and second of all he cheated once he will cheat again, even if you're pregnant. A good example would be Lauren of course, who broke up with her boyfriend and instead of dwelling and tricking him she got over him. She doesn't have to make herself look bad for guys to like her and she doesn't beg for their attention. Also, I was recently informed on how Lauren got her internship, of course she got it through MTV, which upset a ton of people. All in all it just goes to show you that even the rich people who you think have everything, dont always have EVERYTHING, like self-respect.

Hanes Her Way

For this weeks readin there was an essay written by a student about an advertisement. The title was hanes her way. Although the essay was well written there were some outragous statements made in her essay. For example, the author stated that the gentlemen in her advertisement looked into the laundry hamper and saw a worn pair of underwear and it reminded him of his mother and his childhood. I dont have any idea as to what would make a man think of his mother while looking at not only a dirty, worn pair of underwear, but his girlfriends underwear at that. I believe that he needs to reevaluate his relationship with his girlfriend and his mother because there is something extremely wrong with that picture. Another wierd statement was the fact that the women in the commercial was apparently wearing granny panties, I dont know why the advertisers would make granny panties a main product to sell because sex sells in America. I figure that if you want to be successful in the advertising business you would utilize sex and make women feel sexier in the clothes you were trying to sell. I dont want to go out and by Hanes underwear because when Im 40 they will look nice in a laundry basket, or because they will look nice even when they are worn and dirty. Some commercials confuse me and make me a like sick to my stomach.
